Frequently asked questions

  • Who creates the steps, riddles and answers in a treasure hunt?

Our trails are developed in collaboration with the local coordinators who request them. Based on the tourist points of interest they identify, we carry out an on-site visit to design the route and propose steps, riddles and playful interactions to bring the itinerary to life. All questions, answers and mini-games are then validated by the local coordinators before being integrated into the treasure hunt.

  • Is there a minimum number of points of interest required to create a trail?

There is no minimum or ideal number of points of interest to define beforehand for your trail. This can vary greatly depending on the nature and layout of the area. During the on-site visit, our team will adjust accordingly, either limiting or suggesting new points of interest to ensure smooth and enjoyable gameplay.

  • Are any specific authorisations required?

As Totemus trails take place exclusively in public spaces that are freely accessible at all times, no special authorisation is needed to create a trail. Only municipal approval is required to place the final QR code (printed on a small A6-sized metal plate) at the end of the route. This plate is usually discreetly attached to a piece of street furniture, the base of a wall or the back of a signpost.

  • What does the trail maintenance service include?

In addition to publishing your trail on the Totemus app and website, our team provides real-time user support as well as any necessary on-site repairs. You will also have access to your trail’s statistics dashboard and receive an annual supply of badges and flyers.

  • When does the trail’s publication period and maintenance service begin?

Maintenance begins on the very first day your trail is published in the app. This also applies if the trail is completed but scheduled for a later publication date. A few weeks before the expiry date, which is always visible in your statistics dashboard, you will be notified, allowing you to plan the renewal of your trail’s maintenance to ensure continued service online.

  • Can the route be modified after the trail is published?

If there is a compelling reason (such as construction work, weather damage or long-term degradation), adjustments to the route can be made free of charge as part of the trail’s maintenance service. However, if the changes require a new on-site visit or the creation of new steps or riddles, a new quote will need to be provided.
