Visit to the Museum L

Not just another museum

The Musée L, a young university museum where scientific collections and works of art come together in a dialogue to create new emotions.

Located less than 30 km from Brussels, in Louvain-la-Neuve, the Catholic University of Louvain’s (UCLouvain) new museum, Musée L, opened on 18 November 2017 in a completely renovated building.

It is Belgium’s very first large-scale university museum, with more than 3,830 m² accessible to the public.

What makes it special? The dialogue between the works, the unique scientific collections of UCLouvain and 3 labs where the public can handle the works.

A Buddha next to a Christ from the Middle Ages, ancient writings next to calculating machines… The Musée L, with its 20,000 items in its inventory, dares to create original encounters to tell us about the world and our humanity.

Not only works of art are on display, but also the scientific collections of UCLouvain. Natural history specimens, archaeological and ethnographic artefacts and scientific inventions are on display in 2,580 m² of exhibition space, in the heart of a building that is emblematic of modern Belgian architecture.

The Musée L is not a museum like any other: it’s a place for sharing and living, dedicated to emotion and exploration.
