Some people have fun on the water, aboard their boats. On theisland of Yvoir, between Namur and Dinant, it’s on dry land but in the middle of the water that you can have a good time!
And with good reason: it’s the only island in Belgium to be used for tourism. Take the automated water ferry and you’re off for an unforgettable moment of relaxation.
This 900-metre-long strip of land is nonetheless a natural refuge for Mosan fauna and flora. Part of the island has been classified as ” Natura 2000 ” by the Walloon Region. You’ll come across geese and swans, sometimes incubating their eggs. The animals live in harmony with visitors, as long as they are not disturbed.
The other half of the park is dedicated to fun and recreation for young and old alike. Children can spend hours on the playground with its ” pirate ship “. As for the little ones, they can splash around in the paddling pool, watched by their parents.
Don’t look for it: there’s no sand on the Ile d’Yvoir. But that doesn’t matter! One ray of sunshine and the green grass turns into a real beach where you can lay your towel. Do you prefer water-based leisure activities?
The island is open from May.
